Internet Of Strings: Connecting the world one guitar at a time
Remember Guitar Hero, the game that that spun out of the MIT Media Lab? You could almost play your favorite hits. Then came Smule’s Ocarina which spun out of Stanford’s CCRMA that connected muscians across the world via their virtual instrument apps. So why not combine the two? Why not leverage IoT to connect stringed instruments around the world for global jam sessions, issues of lag and latency aside. Virtual lessons become easier since experts can see what is happening at the string level rather than just watching over Skype. I project this could result in a new string theory for the betterment of musicians around the world!
Why limit this to guitars? Why not violins or cellos? Imagine a million children slaving through the Suzuki method, scratching out Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on their tiny violins! Agony or ecstasy, you decide.
